A foreign national wanted to stay for free, but when the hotel staff refused, he cut himself with a knife

A Turkmen citizen attempted self-harm outside a hotel in Delhi after being denied a free stay due to lack of funds.

In a distressing incident outside a hotel in Paharganj, Central Delhi, a Turkmenistani national named Jehun attempted to harm himself with a knife after being denied accommodation due to lack of funds. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, underscored the desperate situations that some foreign nationals can find themselves in when abroad. According to police, Jehun had previously stayed at the White Glow Hotel from January 20 to February 10 and returned on February 11 in an inebriated state.

The hotel staff informed Jehun that there were no vacant rooms available, which reportedly infuriated him. He was in a drunken state and insisted on being accommodated despite not having any money. In a troubling turn of events, after being told he could not stay, he resorted to self-harm, attacking his own neck with a knife he had on him. Following this alarming act, the hotel management alerted local police, who arrived at the scene; however, by that time, Jehun had already lost a considerable amount of blood.

Emergency services transported him to Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) Hospital for treatment. This incident raises important questions about the mental health and well-being of individuals visiting foreign countries, particularly regarding access to support and resources in situations of crises. The incident starkly highlights the vulnerabilities faced by travelers dealing with substance abuse and financial difficulties while abroad, necessitating better mechanisms for assistance and intervention.
