The Statistics Office does not know when January's consumer price index data will be ready
The Estonian Statistics Office has delayed the release of January's consumer price index data twice and is currently unsure when it will be available.
The Estonian Statistics Office announced that the release of the January consumer price index (CPI) data has been postponed twice, with no definite timeline for when the information will be ready. Originally scheduled for publication on February 6, the office unexpectedly moved the release date from last Friday to Monday. However, it became clear by Monday that even with the extended timeframe over the weekend, the data collection was insufficient to meet the timeline.
According to Susann Kivi, the head of media relations at the Statistics Office, they currently lack the necessary information regarding the release. However, she assured that once a new timeframe is established, they will promptly inform the public. Urmet Lee, the director of the Statistics Office, explained that the delay stems not only from the implementation of a new methodology but also involves a comprehensive overhaul and automation of the entire consumer price index production process.
The consumer price index is vital as it reflects changes in the prices of goods and services, impacting various areas such as pensions, wages, and living costs. The delays in releasing this data may affect economic assessments and planning, as timely CPI data serves as an essential economic indicator for households and policymakers alike.
