Thousands without electricity after attacks in Ukraine
Thousands of Ukrainians are left without electricity following a Russian attack on several Ukrainian cities.
Recent attacks by Russia have left thousands of Ukrainians without electricity as they struck multiple cities across the country. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, reported that hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles targeted energy systems, depriving civilians of essential services such as electricity, heat, and water. Authorities confirmed that 219 drones and 24 ballistic missiles were intercepted, but devastation was still significant, especially in urban areas.
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that 2,600 buildings had lost power as a direct result of the attacks, which have become increasingly frequent as the winter approaches. This pattern of targeting is part of a broader strategy by Russia to undermine Ukraine's critical infrastructure during the colder months, potentially leading to humanitarian crises as residents face freezing temperatures.
Additionally, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister, Oleksiy Kuleba, reported that nearly 300,000 people in Odesa are currently without electricity and water. The ongoing conflict continues to have dire effects on civilian life in Ukraine, highlighting the need for international support and a resolution to the violence that has brought about these repeated assaults on energy infrastructure.
