Pursuing Family Reunion Applicants: Israel Undermines Palestinian Family Life
The Israeli government plans to establish a special unit to investigate Palestinian families applying for reunification, enforcing stringent measures under the pretext of preventing fraud.
The Israeli government has announced its intention to create a specialized unit aimed at pursuing Palestinian families who apply for reunification, thereby potentially infringing upon their rights to family life. This new initiative is presented under the justification of preventing what the authorities describe as 'fraud' within these applications. Consequently, powers will be extended to this unit, allowing them to investigate and search the living conditions and work locations of Palestinian couples involved in these applications. This development comes directly from a decision by the ministerial committee for legislative affairs, which recently approved a legal memorandum put forth by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently facing charges from the International Criminal Court related to war crimes in Gaza.
