Industry urges transition plan toward decarbonisation

The deputy CEO of Angelicoussis Group highlighted the importance of a realistic transition plan for decarbonisation in the shipping industry during the LNG2026 Conference in Qatar.

At the 21st LNG2026 International Conference & Exhibition held in Qatar, Sveinung Stohle, Deputy CEO of Angelicoussis Group, participated in a panel discussing the future of LNG shipping in relation to energy transition. The conversation emphasized regulatory compliance and the need for strategic resilience amidst fluctuating market conditions. Stohle highlighted how reinforcing investor confidence can lead to better long-term returns, particularly as the industry navigates complex regulatory landscapes.

Stohle articulated the significance of adhering to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) decarbonisation goals, stressing that a practical and phased transition plan is necessary to meet these targets. He pointed out that Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) currently stands as a feasible interim solution for transitioning towards greener energy sources, contributing to a considerable reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional fuels. This endorsement of LNG is crucial as the maritime industry seeks to align itself with global sustainability standards.

Looking ahead, Stohle expressed optimism about the shipping sector's future, noting that ongoing technological advancements will be pivotal in supporting the decarbonisation efforts. He asserted that these innovations not only benefit environmental goals but also enhance efficiency and operational performance, ultimately attracting more investment into the sector. The emphasis on technology and a methodical approach to decarbonisation indicates a robust path forward for the industry amid evolving energy landscapes.
