Language Series Other Than English "Every Day" to Be Aired Late Night by NHK Radio Restructuring
NHK has announced that the language series 'Every Day,' which includes languages other than English, will be moved to late-night hours due to the restructuring of its radio programs starting from March 30.
NHK recently revealed its plans for a radio programming restructuring set to take effect on March 30, where the AM channels 1 and 2 will be consolidated. As a result of this change, the language programs in the 'Every Day' series, which previously aired in the morning, will now be rescheduled to late-night time slots. The move may significantly impact the listening habits of those who depended on these programs for language learning during their morning routines.
While English language courses will continue to air in the morning hours at 6 AM, other language classes such as 'Every Day Korean,' 'Every Day Chinese,' and 'Every Day German' will be shifted to the late-night slots of 1 AM to 2 AM. Additionally, NHK will discontinue programs for less commonly studied languages, like Arabic, Vietnamese news, and Indonesian news, citing a decline in learner interest. The restructuring is part of NHK's wider strategy to consolidate radio broadcasts and reduce costs.
The vice president of NHK, Keio Yamana, emphasized the importance of adapting to changing listening habits, noting that many users now prefer accessing content via the channel's app 'Rajiru Rajiru,' allowing listeners to enjoy programs on-demand at their convenience. This realignment of languages and program schedules marks a significant shift in NHK's approach to delivering educational content to listeners.
