Effect of the Games, disappointed taxi drivers. Hotels occupied at 85%
Taxi drivers in Milan express disappointment over the lack of work during the Winter Olympics, despite high hotel occupancy rates.
Taxi drivers in Milan are expressing their dissatisfaction due to the Winter Olympics, stating that the event has not provided the expected boost in business. Although hotels in the area are reportedly 85% occupied, many taxi drivers claim that they are struggling to find customers, attributing the situation to several factors including the high-security measures for dignitaries and an increased number of people working from home. The coordinator of the Union of Artisans taxi group, Pietro Gagliardi, pointed out that during this event season, taxi ranks have remained unusually empty despite concurrent trade fairs like Bit and Lineapelle, suggesting a strategic misalignment in attracting the right type of tourist to benefit local taxi services.
