Revelation about Jari-Matti Latvala - 'I can confirm'
Jari-Matti Latvala, the team principal of Toyota's WRC team, discusses his involvement in upcoming rally events in the 2023 season.
Jari-Matti Latvala, a notable figure in rally racing, is currently serving as the team principal for Toyota's World Rally Championship (WRC) team during this week's competition in Sweden. At 40, Latvala has previously taken on similar responsibilities during the Monte Carlo rally, which kicked off the season, but he will not be overseeing every event due to his commitments as a competitive driver. He recently revealed plans regarding his upcoming participation in various rallies this year.
Latvala announced that he will take on team principal duties again in May for the Rally in Japan and in October for the Rally in Sardinia, Italy, confirming his role at these events. He coordinates with Juha Kankkunen, a veteran in the sport, to share the responsibilities of the team principal position throughout the season, which features a total of 14 competitions in the WRC series. His dual role showcases his dedication to both management and racing.
Apart from his administrative endeavors, Latvala, who has achieved 18 victories in his driving career, continues to participate in historic racing events primarily with a classic Toyota Celica. He has indicated that he plans to compete in this year's Finnish WRC event using a more modern vehicle than the Celica, blending his legacy in rally driving with his current managerial responsibilities.
