Who is responsible for the 'NC Stadium spectator death incident'?
An investigation revealed that the fatal incident at Changwon NC Park was due to a combination of structural defects and poor management.
An investigation into the tragic accident at Changwon NC Park, where a spectator fatality occurred due to an object falling from a structure, concluded that the incident resulted from both structural and technical defects in the fastening of the structure, as well as inadequate management practices. Following the findings presented by the accident investigation committee in Gyeongnam Province, the family of the victim expressed frustration, stating that the announcement fails to identify specific parties responsible, thus shifting blame without accountability. The committee emphasized that the direct causes included the inappropriate use of nuts and washers intended to prevent bolt loosening, as well as the use of washers not suitable for the bolts' specifications.
The investigation revealed that while the offending structure was just one of many installed at the stadium, all 310 structures had been improperly affixed since the stadium's opening in 2019. Despite previous inspections, these issues remained undetected until the tragedy occurred. In light of the incident, Changwon Facility Management Corporation has removed all similar structures from the stadium.
Changwon city officials have recognized the gravity of their responsibilities as the creators and owners of the baseball park, declaring they take the findings of the committee very seriously. Families of the victims are still seeking answers and have urged that law enforcement carries out a thorough investigation without bias to hold those accountable legally. Despite the ongoing investigation into various officials, including the CEO of NC Dinos and former chairman of the management corporation, the families continue to voice their demands for justice.
