Opposition MPs storm into the well as Lok Sabha proceedings begin, causing a ruckus
The opposition members created chaos in the Lok Sabha as the budget session began, pushing the proceedings to be suspended until noon.
The budget session in the Lok Sabha commenced with significant disruption as opposition members entered the well of the House holding placards, expressing their dissent. This uproar led to the suspension of the session until 12 PM, highlighting the tense political climate in the Indian Parliament. The speaker of the Lok Sabha, Krishna Prasad Tenneti, presided over the session amidst the chaos.
In contrast, the Rajya Sabha witnessed a more peaceful beginning. During the Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge raised concerns regarding inhumane treatment of a Dalit individual in Odisha and also referenced an older incident from Madhya Pradesh, which sparked some discontent amongst the opposition members. The tension was palpable as discussions turned contentious, indicating ongoing political strife.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had addressed the Lok Sabha the previous day, responding to debates surrounding the budget. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised her speech on social media, asserting that she had outlined the crucial role this year's budget will play in the economic transformation of the country. The contrasting atmospheres in both houses signify the polarized political landscape currently prevailing in India during a vital budget session.
