'I am Thakur' vs. 'I am Brahmin' dispute reached the police station, what will the police do?
A dispute between a bank relationship manager and her former colleague regarding caste-related threats has escalated to a police complaint in Kanpur.
In Kanpur, a dispute has arisen involving Aastha Singh, a relationship manager at HDFC Bank, who has lodged a written complaint against her former colleague Ritu Tripathi and her husband Rishi Tripathi for making threats. This altercation began on January 6 when Ritu came to resign from her position at the bank. Aastha alleges that Rishi entered the bank premises, threatened her, and questioned her caste, which led to a controversial video of Aastha declaring 'I am Thakur' going viral. In response, Rishi has also filed a complaint against Aastha through a Public Information Portal.
Aastha Singh, deeply affected by the events, stated that she only mentioned her caste in response to being asked about it while being threatened. The virality of the incident has prompted extensive trolling on social media, with derogatory remarks aimed at her character. Aastha expressed her emotional distress, mentioning feelings of suicidal thoughts due to the humiliation she has faced, which has compelled her to seek legal assistance amidst ongoing threats.
The local police have intervened and plan to bring both parties together for a confrontation to investigate the matter further. This incident highlights not only issues of caste-related tensions in society but also the impact of social media on personal lives, raising questions about privacy and the accountability of individuals amidst the rise of online bullying and harassment.
