Enugu vaccinates 1.5 million children against measles, rubella in one week

The Enugu State Government has successfully vaccinated over 1.5 million children against measles and rubella in a week as part of a statewide immunization campaign.

The Enugu State Government has reported that more than 1.5 million children in the state have received vaccinations against measles and rubella within just one week of an ongoing statewide immunization campaign. Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Ocheku, the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency, highlighted this achievement during the campaign's flag-off ceremony at Michael Okpara Square. The campaign aims to reach 2.2 million children in total, of which the vaccinated figure represents approximately 68 percent of the target population.

Dr. Ani-Ocheku described the vaccination campaign as a historic effort to enhance child health in the region and emphasized the commitment of the Enugu State Government to eliminate measles and rubella. She stated, "We are gathered here today not just for a ceremony but for a declaration," indicating the significance of the event. Her comments underlined the belief that every child's health is equally important, regardless of their location.

The immunization effort is seen as a deliberate strategy to ensure the health and future well-being of children in Enugu, with the agency aiming for zero cases of measles and rubella. This campaign reflects strong public health priorities and the influence of local government initiatives in addressing vaccine-preventable diseases, thereby potentially leading to a healthier population.
