'Horizonte' by Iker Jiménez Fails to Replace 'First Dates' and Puts Cuatro in a Bind

'Horizonte' has not performed well in its timeslot, impacting Cuatro's viewing figures negatively.

Iker Jiménez's show, 'Horizonte,' was launched as a replacement for the successful dating show 'First Dates' on Cuatro. However, its performance in the access prime time slot from Monday to Wednesday has been disappointing, halting the upward trend that Cuatro had been experiencing prior to this change. Traditionally, 'First Dates' has successfully occupied this timeslot for years, airing from about 21:40 to 23:00, and its move to Telecinco has left a notable gap that 'Horizonte' failed to fill.

The scheduling changes seem to be affecting both Cuatro and Telecinco negatively, reflecting the competitive nature of evening programming in Spain. This prime-time slot, specifically before 23:00, has become increasingly important since the arrival of 'La revuelta' on La 1 in September 2024, which has boosted the public broadcaster's performance during this time.

As a result, Mediaset's strategy to seamlessly transition viewers from 'First Dates' to 'Horizonte' has not yielded the expected results. The lack of viewership for 'Horizonte' not only undermines the show's success but also jeopardizes Cuatro's position in a highly competitive market, prompting a reevaluation of their programming strategies going forward.
