Fires in Chile: Mexican brigades conclude support mission
A Mexican team of forest combatants has completed their support mission in Chile, enhancing operational strategies and regional cooperation in fire management.
The Mexican mission of forest fighters has concluded their assignment in Chile, leaving behind notable operational progress, restoration of affected areas, and a technical cooperation model aimed at improving regional responses to forest fires, as reported by the National Forestry Commission (Conafor). The team undertook critical tasks including the creation of firebreaks, extinguishing active hotspots, rearranging combustible materials, and performing ongoing patrolling and surveillance to prevent new fire outbreaks.
Rosario Martínez Córdoba, a brigadista with Conafor, emphasized the rewarding experience of assisting their Chilean counterparts in a joint effort to protect the environment. She highlighted the invaluable exchange of techniques learned during this mission, which will strengthen their combat capabilities back in Mexico as they adapt new methods to enrich their work.
This mission underscores the importance of international cooperation in managing natural disasters, especially in regions prone to wildfires. The collaborative efforts between Mexico and Chile not only enhance the immediate response to the current crisis but also foster long-term improvements in forest management practices across both nations.
