Birmex will buy 15 million more measles vaccines

Birmex, the Mexican biological laboratories, will purchase an additional 15 million doses of measles vaccines to enhance the country's vaccination efforts.

The General Director of Laboratorios de Biológicos y Reactivos de México S.A. de C.V. (Birmex), Carlos Ulloa, announced that Mexico will acquire an additional 15 million measles vaccines, in addition to the 28 million doses currently held by the government. This move is aimed at bolstering the country's vaccination stockpile in preparation for the upcoming second half of the year.

During a statement following his visit to the Palacio Nacional, Ulloa explained that these new doses will come from Serum, a pharmaceutical company based in India, and will serve as a reserve to ensure that the country is well-prepared for future immunization needs. He elaborated that the current supply of 28 million doses is expected to cover vaccination needs thoroughly for the current month, while the additional doses will be strategically scheduled to arrive by the end of the second semester.

Ulloa emphasized the priority of inoculating children aged between six months and 12 years, indicating a focused effort on protecting this vulnerable demographic from measles. This decision reflects Mexico's commitment to public health and aims to prevent potential outbreaks of measles, thereby safeguarding the health of its population and reducing healthcare burdens in the future.
