Traffic Superintendent is Dismissed After Nearly Two Years in Office in Rio Branco
Clendes Vilas Boas was dismissed from his role as the Traffic Superintendent of Rio Branco after nearly two years, amid allegations of moral harassment.
Clendes Vilas Boas, the Traffic Superintendent of Rio Branco, was officially dismissed from his position on Wednesday, following nearly two years in charge of the municipal traffic authority, RBTrans. His dismissal was announced in an extraordinary edition of the State Official Diary, although Vilas Boas himself stated that he had not yet been informed of the decision at the time of the report. He had been appointed to the role on February 27, 2022, succeeding Benício Dias.
Throughout his tenure, Vilas Boas faced scrutiny due to allegations of moral harassment towards female employees within the agency. These accusations led to a formal investigation and a decision by the local councilors to approve his suspension; however, this was not acted upon by the mayor, Tião Bocalom, who is a member of the PL party. The pressure from the local legislative body and ongoing investigations eventually culminated in his dismissal, illustrating a significant shift in the municipal governance of traffic matters.
In the same official document where Vilas Boas's dismissal was published, the new appointee, Marcos Roberto da Silva Coutinho, was announced as the new head of RBTrans. This change in leadership may suggest a renewed focus on addressing workplace issues and enhancing the organizational environment within the traffic authority amidst ongoing concerns over staff treatment and organizational integrity.
