The Health Department of Santarém in western Pará, Brazil, has confirmed three fatalities due to dengue fever. The deceased include a 22-year-old woman from the Área Verde neighborhood, a 42-year-old man from the Esperança neighborhood, and a 19-year-old man from Nova Vitória. The deaths occurred on January 15, February 2, and February 5, all in the year 2026. The report comes in response to inquiries from TV Tapajós's journalism team, which aims to shed light on the current health crisis in the area.

In addition to the deaths, the Health Department reported a total of 150 cases of dengue fever in Santarém, highlighting the growing threat posed by the disease. Currently, eight individuals are hospitalized due to the mosquito-borne illness; among them, seven are reported to be in stable condition, while one patient remains in intensive care. This alarming increase in cases raises concerns about public health and the effectiveness of preventive measures in place against the disease in the region.

The situation has prompted calls for increased awareness and action to combat the dengue virus, particularly as the rainy season approaches, which is known to exacerbate mosquito breeding conditions.
