After frequent power outages, the Public Ministry of DF opens an investigation to demand explanations from Neoenergia
The Public Ministry of the Federal District has initiated an investigation into Neoenergia's electricity supply failures in response to numerous consumer complaints about power outages.
The Public Ministry of the Federal District (MPDFT) has opened a civil inquiry to investigate complaints regarding inconsistent electricity service from Neoenergia. This action was prompted by ongoing consumer grievances about frequent power interruptions that have occurred between 2022 and 2025. The investigation aims to assess the reliability and quality of electricity supply provided by Neoenergia, particularly during adverse weather conditions, which consumers report have exacerbated the number of outages.
According to the MPDFT, there are numerous reports of weekly and even daily power failures, particularly during rainy periods. The inquiry will also explore the potential material and moral damages incurred by the population due to these service interruptions. The Prosecution Office for Consumer Defense (Prodecon) has requested data from the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) regarding service quality indicators and has reached out to Neoenergia for further information about the outages.
In response to the investigation, Neoenergia has stated that it has made significant investments in equipment and inspections. The company attributed some of the power failures to vegetation impacting the electrical networks, highlighting the challenges in maintaining service reliability amidst environmental factors. As the investigation unfolds, its outcomes could lead to demands for improved service delivery or accountability mechanisms for energy providers in Brazil.
