Velasco 'unveils' Ruth González, wife of the governor, as a candidate in SLP: 'Hopefully, she gets encouraged'
Manuel Velasco has nominated Senator Ruth González Silva, wife of the current governor, as a potential candidate for the San Luis Potosí governorship in the 2027 election.
Manuel Velasco, the coordinator of the Green Party in Mexico, has publicly backed Senator Ruth González Silva as a promising candidate for the San Luis Potosí governorship in the upcoming 2027 elections. Velasco highlighted that González, who is also the wife of current governor Ricardo Gallardo, is performing well in party surveys, leading by a significant margin. He expressed hope that she would consider stepping into the race, stating, 'If she wants to, she will undoubtedly be the next governor'.
Despite the support from Velasco, Senator González remains focused on her legislative duties at the moment. She acknowledged the interest in her potential candidacy but emphasized that her primary concern is her current role in the Senate, where she aims to prioritize the responsibilities expected of her by the people of San Luis Potosí and all of Mexico. She stated, "I need to be convinced," indicating that she is not yet committed to the idea of running for governor.
The political maneuvering around González's possible candidacy reflects the ongoing dynamics within the Green Party and its relationship with their allies, hinting at strategic calculations as the next election approaches. Given her background and the current governor's support, her candidacy could play a significant role in the political landscape of San Luis Potosí, potentially affecting party alliances and voter sentiments as the election nears.
