Shocking testimonies about the starvation of prisoners in occupation prisons despite the Supreme Court ruling
Testimonies reveal ongoing starvation and mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, despite a Supreme Court order to improve conditions.
Despite a ruling from the Israeli Supreme Court five months ago stating that prisons must provide adequate food for Palestinian prisoners, testimonies from released inmates highlight alarming levels of starvation and maltreatment. Prisoner Samer Khweira, now a journalist, shared his experiences of receiving insufficient food during his time in Israeli detention, detailing how he was often given only thin slices of bread and very limited other food.
Khweira's ordeal was compounded by the fact that he was held without charges and had no knowledge of the reasons for his arrest during a night raid in April 2025. He described the drastic physical changes that ensued, losing a staggering 22 kilograms during his nine-month imprisonment, leaving him in a state so emaciated that his young son failed to recognize him upon his release. Videos captured before and after his imprisonment starkly illustrate the deterioration of his health.
These personal accounts, including Khweira's, emphasize the dire conditions faced by Palestinian prisoners and reveal systemic issues within the Israeli prison system. The testimonies collected by news agencies also point to a broader context of human rights violations and reinforce calls for accountability and changes to incarceration practices following the Supreme Court's directive.
