Firefighters have been actively combating a fire in a multi-commerce building in downtown Guayaquil for nearly seven hours.

Firefighters in Guayaquil have been engaged in efforts to control a significant fire that broke out in a multi-commerce building located at the intersection of Cuenca and Eloy Alfaro streets. The alarm was first raised at approximately 7:00 AM by an employee who was inside the building at the time, leading to the deployment of 23 units and around 120 firefighters to the scene. By 9:30 AM, the Chief of the Fire Department, MartΓ­n CucalΓ³n, reported that the situation was under control. However, despite initial efforts, the flames re-ignited and spread to the rear part of the structure, complicating the firefighting efforts.
