Magnus Gisslén exploited in fake AI films – false weight loss products spread on social media

Former state epidemiologist Magnus Gisslén is being misrepresented in AI-generated videos promoting fictitious weight loss products on social media.

Magnus Gisslén, a former state epidemiologist and a currently practicing professor in infectious diseases at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, has recently been featured in several AI-generated videos on social media advertising various weight loss supplements and products purported to eliminate parasites from the human body. These videos have been identified as fraudulent, raising serious concerns about the misuse of Gisslén's image and professional reputation.

The situation escalated when Gisslén began receiving emails and messages from individuals who had been deceived by these fake advertisements, expressing their concerns and frustration. He described one of the clips he had seen, noting that it lacked credibility and appeared to be poorly made. This indicates not only a blatant violation of his image but also the potential harm caused to vulnerable individuals seeking legitimate health solutions.

In response to this situation, Gisslén has taken legal action by reporting the incident to the police and contacting Meta, the owner of Facebook, to request the removal of the misleading videos. However, their initial response indicated that the content only violated their guidelines to a minor extent, highlighting ongoing challenges in combating misinformation and protecting individuals from exploitation in the digital space.
