A 30-year-old man of Afghan citizenship living in Bergen has been arrested in relation to a murder that took place in Arna. Initially, he was interviewed as a witness, but police have since identified him as a suspect based on his movements, knowledge of the deceased, and other evidence linking him to the crime. The local police held a press conference detailing these developments to the public.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when authorities received a report of a violent incident in Arna, east of Bergen. A man in his late 20s was hospitalized after being assaulted but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries despite lifesaving efforts. The man's wife also sustained injuries; however, her condition was not serious, and she was initially treated at a local emergency room before being transferred to Haukeland hospital.
Following the incident, the perpetrator fled the scene before police arrived. Law enforcement subsequently called for public assistance to locate the suspect, who was initially unknown to them. The couple had recently arrived in Norway in 2021 after the Taliban took control in Afghanistan, securing their residence permits amid challenging circumstances.
