Mumbai's first 'Musical Road', the tune of 'Jai Ho' will play from tire friction
Mumbai has launched India’s first musical road which plays the tune of 'Jai Ho' when vehicles travel over it at a certain speed.
In Mumbai, a unique 'Melody Road' has been launched on the Coastal Road, which creates a memorable driving experience by playing the Oscar-winning song 'Jai Ho' through the friction between vehicle tires and specially designed grooves in the road. This innovation is a first for India and utilizes technology originally introduced in Hungary.
The musical tune is audible to passengers within the vehicle when it travels at a speed of approximately 70 to 80 km/h, making the commute not just faster but also more enjoyable. This initiative has been conceptualized by former MP Rahul Shewale and implemented by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, aiming to provide a unique blend of entertainment while also encouraging drivers to maintain a steady speed, thereby enhancing road safety.
The concept of musical roads, known as 'melody roads,' originated in Japan, and this project reflects a trend towards increasing engagement and safety in transportation. By integrating technology and creativity into public infrastructure, Mumbai is setting a precedent for future roadway innovations that could potentially inspire other cities both in India and around the world.
