ACF chair urges Northern leaders to act on insecurity
The Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum calls for urgent action from Northern leaders to address rising insecurity and prioritize the region's challenges over political realignments.
Mamman Mike Osuman, the Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has expressed grave concerns regarding the escalating insecurity in Northern Nigeria, particularly as political maneuvering for the upcoming 2027 elections intensifies. During the 79th National Executive Committee meeting in Kaduna, Osuman emphasized the importance of prioritizing the urgent crises facing the region, which include terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. He warned that these issues are displacing communities and disrupting livelihoods, affecting the most vulnerable populations in the North.
Osuman urged members of the forum to adopt a disciplined and actionable approach in their leadership roles, stressing that their efforts must be sincere and directed towards alleviating the suffering of the downtrodden in the region. He highlighted that the current political landscape is worrying, with some leaders focused more on reshaping their political fortunes rather than addressing pressing societal problems such as hunger and education for out-of-school children.
The call for collective and purposeful action comes at a critical time as Northern Nigeria faces significant challenges. Political leaders are being reminded of their responsibilities beyond mere political ambitions, as a failure to address security and social issues could lead to further destabilization of the region. The implications of neglecting these challenges may extend beyond local communities, impacting national stability and security as a whole.
