Confusion over ENA and Zbigniew Ziobro. Will the dismissed judge make the decision?
The Polish prosecutor's office has requested a European Arrest Warrant against Zbigniew Ziobro, but the case might be impacted by the recent dismissal of the presiding judge.
On February 10, the prosecutor's office in Poland filed a request with the District Court in Warsaw for the issuance of a European Arrest Warrant (ENA) against Zbigniew Ziobro. This request fell under the purview of Judge Dariusz Łubowski, who has handled all cases related to ENA until recently. Reports indicate that the judge was dismissed from this function the very next day, raising questions about the future handling of Ziobro's case.
Judge Łubowski previously revoked a European Arrest Warrant against another official, Marcin Romanowski, and it appears that the prosecutor's office has managed to get him excluded from adjudicating the renewed request regarding Ziobro. The situation underscores ongoing issues within the judicial system, as the eventual outcome will hinge on the decision about whether Judge Łubowski's involvement was appropriate or if his recent dismissal further complicates the matter.
Waldemar Żurek, speaking on Radio Zet, noted that this section of the judicial body has faced operational issues for some time, although he claimed not to have intervened directly. This situation raises significant implications for the political landscape in Poland, particularly pertaining to accountability and the treatment of members within the ruling Law and Justice party, of which Ziobro is a prominent figure.
