Man in Skellefteå sentenced to prison for child rape – woman acquitted

A man has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for the rape of a 14-year-old girl, while the woman involved was acquitted due to lack of evidence against her.

In October 2022, a significant incident occurred in Skellefteå, leading to a criminal trial. The police became aware of the situation involving a 14-year-old girl when she was interviewed in December 2024 regarding another matter. The allegations indicated that both a man and a woman pressured the girl to engage in sexual acts with the man, with the girl reportedly rejecting the proposition over 50 times. Despite the girl's claims that the assault happened while the woman was present, the court found insufficient evidence to convict the woman, who was subsequently acquitted.

The Skellefteå District Court deemed the accusations made by the victim credible, acknowledging the considerable time that had passed since the incident occurred. The court sentenced the man to two years and nine months in prison for the crime of child rape, despite the legal minimum sentence being three years. The judges considered the time elapsed since the crime when determining the sentence, which led to a lesser outcome than the minimum requirement. The court also ordered the man to pay 240,000 kronor in damages to the victim.

Both the man and the woman have denied the charges against them. This case highlights the challenges law enforcement and judicial systems face in dealing with crimes involving minors, particularly concerning the passage of time and the subjective nature of victim testimonies. It underscores the need for continued vigilance and support for victims of such crimes, ensuring they are heard and protected under the law.
