Sudan: Govt Confirms Full Return to Khartoum

The Sudanese government has confirmed its full return to Khartoum, where state institutions are now operating from amidst efforts for humanitarian coordination and official delegations.

The Sudanese federal government has officially announced its complete return to Khartoum, resuming its executive functions from within the capital city. This development marks a significant step in stabilizing the government's operations after a prolonged period of displacement due to conflict. The government noted that while state institutions have reestablished their presence in Khartoum, there are still limited regional and international connections maintained primarily for humanitarian purposes and official delegations, indicating a cautious approach to international re-engagement.

In a session with the Sudanese diaspora in Kuwait, Minister of Culture, Information, Tourism, and Antiquities Khalid Al-Eisir elaborated on this transition. He highlighted that two significant meetings occurred in the past fortnight: one convening the Transitional Sovereignty Council with the Council of Ministers and another involving the Cabinet in full. These meetings signify the government's commitment to governance and represent a unifying move for various sectors of the administration that were previously scattered due to ongoing conflicts.

Al-Eisir further acknowledged the severe infrastructure damage that Khartoum sustained during the war, underlining the challenges that lie ahead for the government as it seeks to not only operate but also rebuild its capital. The announcement could signify a turning point for Sudan in terms of governance and recovery, as a stable government presence in Khartoum may lead to increased efforts in reconstruction and coordination of humanitarian assistance, heralding a new phase for the country’s political landscape.
