Five municipalities join forces to help laid-off Novo employees

Five municipalities in Denmark are collaborating to assist former Novo Nordisk employees in finding new jobs after receiving funding from the Ministry of Employment.

In an effort to support laid-off employees from Novo Nordisk, five municipalities in Denmark—Gladsaxe, Ballerup, Lyngby-Taarbæk, Gentofte, and Hillerød—have united to form a cooperative initiative aimed at reintegrating these individuals into the workforce. They have received a total of 11.6 million kroner from the Ministry of Employment to fund this undertaking. The strategy includes organizing job fairs, providing training courses, and facilitating conversations between employers and job seekers.

Stine Hollendsted, the head of the Social and Labor Market Center in Ballerup Municipality, emphasized the initiative's goal to connect the unemployed with businesses in the Capital Region that are currently facing labor shortages. With substantial support from government funding, the municipalities aim to create innovative ways for job seekers to meet potential employers, thus addressing the twin challenges of unemployment among former Novo employees and workforce shortages in local businesses.

The collaboration underscores a proactive approach in tackling employment issues locally and highlights the role of municipalities in fostering economic recovery in the aftermath of job losses. By leveraging resources and working together, these municipalities hope to pave the way for better employment opportunities and support for those affected by the layoffs.
