NKJT finally approved to run a protected residence

The National Women's Shelter and Sign Language Support, NKJT, has received approval to open a protected residence after a lengthy wait since summer 2024.

The National Women's Shelter and Sign Language Support (NKJT) has been granted permission to operate a protected residence, a decision that comes after their operations were under review by the Swedish Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO) since summer 2024. The approval signifies a validation of the quality and safety of services provided by NKJT, an organization committed to supporting adults and children affected by violence.

Hanna Sejlitz, the chairperson of NKJT, expressed satisfaction with the decision, stating that although they were able to continue their work during the approval process, the official confirmation is an essential acknowledgment of their efforts. The new residence aims to provide safe and high-quality accommodations for those in need, and NKJT has plans to further develop its operations in conjunction with local municipalities, encouraging them to consider placing individuals in their care.

The establishment of this protected residence reflects the increasing recognition of the need for safe spaces for victims of violence, particularly women and children, in Swedish society. As NKJT continues to enhance its services, the organization hopes that more communities will understand the importance of such shelters and support their mission to provide secure living environments for vulnerable populations.
