Accident with Hanshin's Daichi Ishii: Possible Injury to Left Leg in Exhibition Game
Daichi Ishii of the Hanshin Tigers suffered a possible left leg injury during an exhibition game.
On November 11, an incident occurred during an exhibition game for the Hanshin Tigers involving pitcher Daichi Ishii. After he allowed a hit in the third inning, Ishii complained of an issue as he attempted to cover home base, falling to his knees on the ground. Unable to walk, he was taken off the field on a stretcher. Upon leaving the stadium after treatment, he was seen in a wheelchair with his left calf heavily bandaged. Last season, Ishii set a professional baseball record with 50 consecutive scoreless appearances, marking an impressive ERA of 0.17 and playing a significant role in the team's league championship. Manager Kiyoshi Yamamoto emphasized the team's commitment to improving collectively, stating that they are working hard to ensure that even if some players struggle, the team can still secure wins together. Ishii has also been selected to represent Japan in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) and had been practicing with the official Major League baseballs in preparation. With another player, Kaima Takahashi, withdrawing from the team due to a left calf muscle strain, Ishii's injury could necessitate a reshaping of the relief pitching staff depending on his condition.
