The girl was reportedly kidnapped a few days before her recovery by the locals, who found her abandoned in a desolate area. According to reports, the girl was playing in her home's courtyard on February 7 when the suspect abducted her, by taking her away on a scooter from the Pulikkad area of Manthanwadi. He subsequently left the girl about eight kilometers away in the Taruwana region and escaped. Local residents spotted the girl wandering alone around 9 PM and immediately informed the police. The police quickly arrived at the scene and returned the girl safely to her family, highlighting the community's role in her recovery.

Following the incident, the police established a special investigation team and commenced a thorough inquiry. They reviewed footage from several CCTV cameras in the vicinity, where one recording showed the suspect taking the girl on a scooter; however, his face was not clearly visible.
