Zelensky confirmed the acquisition of hundreds of new Gripen and Rafale fighters

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed agreements with France and Sweden for the purchase of new fighter jets, including 150 Saab Gripens and 100 Dassault Rafales.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on February 8 that Ukraine has secured contracts with France and Sweden for the acquisition of new fighter jets. Speaking to students at the Kyiv Aviation Institute, Zelensky detailed that the agreements involve the delivery of 150 Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighters and 100 Dassault Rafale military aircraft. He praised these aircraft as some of the best currently available in the world.

The agreements build on a preliminary arrangement made in October, where Zelensky and Swedish officials discussed the delivery of 100 to 150 Gripens. The confirmed number of Gripens is now set at 150, reflecting an increase from the original estimate. In a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron in November, the discussions on French Rafale fighters were highlighted, with France committing to supply 100 Rafale F-4 fighters along with additional military assets.

This procurement of advanced fighter jets marks a significant step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. By enhancing its air force with such modern technology, Ukraine aims to bolster its military position and deter potential threats. The collaboration with both Sweden and France signifies a strengthening of international military partnerships and support for Ukraine's sovereignty in the face of ongoing challenges.
