Ukrainian agents illegally bugged investigator in case linked to Zelensky ally – officials
Ukrainian agents reportedly installed illegal eavesdropping equipment in the home of a senior NABU investigator involved in a high-profile corruption case linked to President Zelensky's ally.
Officials from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) revealed that rogue agents from a Ukrainian law enforcement agency secretly installed eavesdropping devices in the home of a senior investigator. This detective is currently leading investigations into corruption within the defense sector and was previously involved in probing businessman Timur Mindich, an ally of President Volodymyr Zelensky, who faces charges related to a significant extortion scheme linked to a state-owned nuclear energy company.
During a joint press briefing, NABU Director Semyon Krivonos confirmed the illegal surveillance, noting that the bugging occurred during home repairs and lacked any judicial authorization. The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) underscored the seriousness of the breach and emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of ongoing investigations and the fight against corruption in Ukraine.
The incident raises serious concerns about the level of internal conflict within Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, especially against the backdrop of ongoing corruption efforts under President Zelensky's administration. These developments could potentially hinder anti-corruption initiatives and affect the country's international standing, particularly with Western allies who have been closely monitoring Ukraine's progress in combating graft.
