Danish Shipping History Gets New Life at Spa Hotel
A historical Danish building is being transformed into Tversted Badepension, incorporating furniture from two retired state icebreakers.
In the northern Danish town of Tversted, a historical building is being repurposed into Tversted Badepension, a quaint spa hotel. The site has had various uses over the years, including a camp school, private residence, and holiday colony for children, but it is now set to embrace its new identity while paying homage to Danish shipping history.
The unique aspect of Tversted Badepension’s design is the integration of furniture and interior decor sourced from retired state icebreakers, Danbjørn and Isbjørn, which were decommissioned in 2013. Much of the original furnishings, despite being over 50 years old, have seen very little use since their removal from the icebreakers, and this has led to a fresh opportunity for their revival in a new context.
Bruno Skiveren, one of the co-owners of the hotel, expressed that the vintage elements provide a historic feel to the establishment, enhancing the experience for guests. This blend of heritage and hospitality aims not only to attract visitors but also to instill a sense of pride in Denmark's maritime history, showcasing its legacy in a modern setting.
