Rise in antisemitic incidents after Manchester synagogue attack
There has been a significant rise in antisemitic incidents in the UK, particularly following a deadly attack at a Manchester synagogue.
Following the tragic attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Synagogue in Manchester, where two individuals lost their lives, the Community Security Trust (CST) reported a sharp increase in antisemitic incidents across the UK. A total of 3,700 anti-Jewish hate incidents were documented in 2025, reflecting a 4% increase from the previous year. This marked the first time that more than 200 cases were recorded in every month of the year, highlighting a disturbing trend in hate crimes against the Jewish community.
On October 2, the day of the attack, a staggering 40 antisemitic incidents were reported, followed by another 40 the following day. The CST noted that many of these incidents were direct responses to the attack, underscoring the urgent need for community security measures in the wake of such violence. The victims, Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, were targeted in a brutal act that left the local community and the Jewish population shaken.
This uptick in antisemitism is part of a larger narrative concerning hate crimes in the UK, raising alarms among lawmakers and community leaders. With the CST's report indicating the alarming frequency of incidents throughout 2025, it reveals not only immediate repercussions of the synagogue attack but also ongoing tensions and the necessity for heightened vigilance and inter-community dialogue to address the root causes of such hatred and violence.
