Whispers Between Jeong Cheong-rae and Lee An-ju After Three Weeks... "We Are One Team" Escapes a Critical Situation
The atmosphere in the Democratic Party's Supreme Committee shifts towards harmony as tensions subside following Jeong Cheong-rae's announcement to halt merger discussions with the Justice Party.
After nearly three weeks of escalating tensions within the Democratic Party, the atmosphere of the Supreme Committee has transitioned into a 'controlled retreat' mode. This shift occurred after Jeong Cheong-rae, the party leader, decided to suspend discussions regarding a merger with the Justice Party. The opposing faction within the party, known as the 'anti-Cheong trio,' responded positively, emphasizing the need for unity and reinforcing the 'one team' spirit to resolve internal conflicts. This marked a significant moment of reconciliation as Jeong and Lee, who previously had their tensions, were seen engaging in whispers during the meeting, symbolizing their newfound collaboration.
At a Supreme Committee meeting held on the morning of the 11th, the three members of the anti-Cheong faction welcomed Jeong's announcement. Lee An-ju, a Supreme Committee member, expressed relief that the previous discussions, which had stirred confusion and conflict among party members and representatives, were coming to an end. She articulated that this decision should serve as a starting point for reconciliation and emphasized unity as essential for the party's success in upcoming local elections and under the leadership of Lee Jae-myung.
Lee An-ju also apologized for causing anxiety among party members in the past due to her harsh comments related to the merger. Additionally, she extended a message of reconciliation towards the Justice Party, acknowledging that while there were disagreements, such divisions should not jeopardize their cooperation as partners in the democratic reform movement. Similarly, another Committee member, Hwang Myeong-seon, who had previously criticized Jeong's methods, acknowledged the difficulties in reaching this decision, indicating that it stemmed from deep deliberation and concern for the party's unity.
