Chamber approves tax reduction costing R$ 3.1 billion and benefiting Braskem
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has approved a temporary tax reduction on PIS/Pasep and Cofins for the chemical and petrochemical industry, benefiting Braskem significantly.
On Tuesday, November 10, the plenary of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies approved a new law aimed at reducing the rates of PIS/Pasep and Cofins for the chemical and petrochemical sectors, with Braskem set to be the primary beneficiary. This reduction, which has garnered 317 votes in favor and 61 against, will come into effect in 2026 and is estimated to cost the federal government R$ 3.1 billion. Of this amount, R$ 1.1 billion is already accounted for in the federal budget for the same year, indicating that there has been some prior fiscal planning related to this tax cut.
