Public Prosecutor requests exhumation of dog Orelha and investigates chief delegate
The Public Prosecutor's Office in Santa Catarina requested the exhumation of the body of the dog Orelha and is investigating the conduct of the state's chief police delegate due to inconsistencies in the case.
On October 10, the Public Prosecutor's Office in Santa Catarina requested the exhumation of Orelha, a dog whose case has raised significant public concern. This request comes alongside a preparatory investigation into the chief delegate of the Civil Police, Ulisses Gabriel, following numerous complaints regarding his handling of the case. The 40th Prosecutor's Office of Justice in Florianópolis, responsible for external oversight of police activities, is evaluating the necessity of a civil inquiry that could lead to legal actions against the detective's conduct.
The prosecutor's office had previously asked for new diligence in the police investigation after uncovering possible inconsistencies in how the case was handled, which has now resulted in renewed scrutiny of the actions taken by law enforcement. There has been criticism regarding the investigation’s thoroughness, especially in relation to the participation of the minors alleged to be involved. This has led to calls for accountability and transparency in how such sensitive cases are resolved by the police.
As of now, the Civil Police have not provided any responses to inquiries about the ongoing case. The lack of communication from the chief delegate adds to the mounting pressure on law enforcement to illustrate integrity and competence in addressing such high-profile cases, particularly those involving animals that have gained public attention.
