Car salesman, dispatcher, boss, and even intern from Detran are convicted for a scheme involving R$ 160,000 sale
Four individuals have been convicted for their involvement in a fraud scheme related to the sale of a damaged luxury car in Roraima, Brazil.
In a significant legal ruling, the Justice of Roraima has convicted four individuals tied to a fraud scheme involving the sale of a damaged luxury vehicle for R$ 160,000. The vehicle, which had been involved in a fatal accident in 2020, was sold to a couple with hidden defects, which were subsequently uncovered. This scheme also included the forgery of a vehicle inspection report in the Cantá region, showcasing serious abuses within the Department of State Traffic (Detran-RR). The individuals convicted include Marcony Medeiros do Nascimento, a car salesman who received a sentence of over six years in semi-open regime, and Jaime Sales Rebouças, the head of Ciretran in Cantá, who was sentenced to nearly three years. Additionally, Leandro Modesto Rodrigues Galvão, a dispatcher, and Lúcio Costa de Andrade, an intern at Detran at the time, were sentenced to two years each. This case highlights the persistent issues of corruption and fraud within the automobile sales industry and regulatory bodies in the region. The ruling was made by Judge Cleber Gonçalves Filho of the 1st Criminal Court and is expected to be appealed. G1 attempted to contact the dealership involved in the sale, WM Veículos, to gain further insight into their perspective on the situation. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability within public and private sectors involved in vehicle transactions and consumer protection.
