Government expects Azul to exit bankruptcy in the US next month
Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports expects Azul to emerge from US bankruptcy proceedings within the next month, reflecting optimism for the recovery of the Brazilian airline sector.
Silvio Costa Filho, Brazil's Minister of Ports and Airports, expressed optimism about the recovery of the Brazilian airline sector during an event with BTG Pactual, discussing the potential exit of Azul from Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in the United States within the next 30 days. He emphasized the positive financial recovery of major Brazilian airlines, using Gol's exit from Chapter 11 last year and Latam's recent aircraft purchase from Embraer as examples of this trend.
The minister noted that support from the National Civil Aviation Fund (Fnac) amounted to R$ 5 billion, helping to stabilize airline finances and create an opportunity for growth in a previously troubled industry. The expected timeline aligns with Azul's own projections for concluding its bankruptcy process. The approval of Azul's recovery plan by a US court in December 2025 further supports the optimism regarding the airline's return to financial stability.
This hopeful outlook for the Brazilian airline industry comes amid broader economic challenges but indicates a potential turning point after a period of significant distress due to the pandemic and other factors. The success of these airlines could bolster Brazil's transportation sector and contribute positively to the overall economy.
