SICT opens public consultation for new hazardous materials transport regulation
The SICT in Mexico has announced a public consultation for the new NOM-011-SICT2/2025 regulation on the transport of hazardous materials in limited quantities.
The Mexican Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) has initiated a public consultation regarding the Project of Official Mexican Standard PROY-NOM-011-SICT2/2025, which will set the conditions for transporting hazardous goods that are packaged or contain limited quantities. This project will be in effect for 60 days following its publication in the Federal Official Gazette, allowing stakeholders to provide input on the proposed regulations.
Hazardous materials in limited quantities refer to low-risk products that can be transported in small containers and are exempt from specific heavy packaging and labeling regulations. Such items include aerosols, perfumes, nail polish removers, adhesives, lithium batteries, and household cleaners. By defining specific guidelines for these materials, the regulation aims to ensure safer transport practices while still facilitating the movement of these commonly used products.
The project highlights the efforts by Tania Carro Toledo within the Undersecretariat of Communications and Transport to improve the safety and regulatory compliance of hazardous materials transport in Mexico. This new standard is anticipated to streamline the transport process for these goods and promote adherence to safety practices within the industry, thus minimizing potential risks associated with the transportation of hazardous materials.
