Training Camp for Rapid Support Forces Detected Inside Ethiopian Territory

Ethiopia has established a secret camp to train Sudanese Rapid Support Forces fighters, marking its direct involvement in the Sudanese conflict.

Recent reports from Reuters, based on intelligence and diplomatic sources, reveal that Ethiopia has created a secret training camp for thousands of fighters from Sudan's Rapid Support Forces. This camp, located 32 kilometers from the Sudanese border and 101 kilometers from the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, represents the first direct evidence of Ethiopia's engagement in the ongoing Sudanese conflict, as the fighting intensifies.

The camp is reportedly designed to bolster the Rapid Support Forces with additional fighters, in response to the escalation of violence in Sudan. Diplomatic and security documents indicate that Emirati support plays a significant role in this operation, which includes the establishment of the training camp and provision of military and logistical expertise. This involvement reflects a broader geopolitical context in which regional players engage in the Sudanese crisis, potentially influencing the balance of power in the region.

Since the beginning of this year, about 4,300 individuals have undergone training at the camp, underscoring the serious implications of this development on the military dynamics in Sudan. As various factions vie for power, Ethiopia’s direct military involvement may complicate the conflict further, raising concerns about stability and security in the Horn of Africa, and prompting reactions from neighboring countries and international bodies following the growing evidence of external interference in the Sudanese war.
