Mexicans missing in Sinaloa were kidnapped by a criminal group: Harfuch
Mexican authorities have confirmed that four Mexicans reported missing in Sinaloa were kidnapped by a criminal group during a trip.
Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, stated that four Mexicans who went missing in Sinaloa were abducted by members of a criminal organization. The missing individuals, Gregorio, Omar Alexis, Javier Ramírez Sabino, and Óscar García Hernández, were last seen on February 3 after renting ATVs in Mazatlán. Shortly after renting the vehicles, they were intercepted by criminals who kidnapped them along with two other tourists.
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of crime in tourist areas of Mexico, where visitors have increasingly become targets for criminal activities. While two of the tourists were released shortly after the kidnapping, the fate of the four remaining individuals remains uncertain. The authorities are actively investigating the case, and the recent discovery of Montserrat and her daughter, who had also gone missing temporarily alongside the group, adds to the urgency of the search efforts.
This abduction reinforces concerns about safety in regions known for tourism, as well as the challenges faced by law enforcement in combating organized crime. The situation underscores the importance of international awareness regarding travel safety and the risks involved when visiting certain areas in Mexico where such incidents have become more common. The government is under pressure to enhance security measures to protect both citizens and tourists from similar occurrences in the future.
