LP ready to welcome Tinubu, Obi, says Abia deputy gov
The Deputy Governor of Abia State has stated that the Labour Party is open to welcoming new members, including political figures such as President Bola Tinubu and former candidate Peter Obi, as it seeks to strengthen under new leadership.
Ikechukwu Emetu, the Deputy Governor of Abia State and chair of the Labour Party’s National Steering Committee on Membership, has announced that the party is ready to embrace President Bola Tinubu, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and other prominent politicians who wish to join. This statement was made during the presentation of a progress report to the newly established National Caretaker Committee led by Nenadi Usman as the Labour Party aims to reposition itself. Emetu explicitly mentioned that the Labour Party promotes an open and transparent membership process that encourages inclusivity, making it clear that no individual is prohibited from joining, irrespective of their political background.
Moreover, he addressed concerns regarding potential returns of significant political figures like Obi who might leave their current affiliations, underlining the Labour Party's commitment to fostering a welcoming environment. This move could be crucial as the party looks to strengthen its influence in the political landscape of Nigeria, especially given the competitive nature of Nigerian politics. The openness expressed by Emetu indicates the Labour Party's strategy to broaden its base by attracting well-known politicians, which might also reshape the dynamics within the current political framework in Nigeria.
