How China’s New Weapon Can Jam Satellites in Space? Watch

China has developed a weapon that can destroy satellites in Earth's orbit using microwave waves.

China has unveiled a new weapon termed the High Power Microwave Weapon, capable of damaging satellites in Earth's orbit by delivering powerful microwave pulses. Unlike traditional missiles or bombs, this weapon operates like a high-powered microwave machine. The weapon, known as the Compact Driver, can emit 3,000 high-energy pulses at a power of 20 gigawatts within just one minute, designed to jam or burn out the electronic systems of satellites like those belonging to military or communication networks.

Previous similar technology was developed by Russia, which created the Sinus 7; however, this device was limited to only one second of operation. In contrast, China's weapon boasts a significant advantage by remaining operational for up to 60 seconds. This enhanced duration allows for a more sustained attack on satellite systems, raising concerns about the strategic military capabilities that countries could employ against their adversaries in space.

The implications of this technology extend beyond immediate military applications, as it introduces potential vulnerabilities for various satellite networks that play critical roles in global communication, navigation, and surveillance. The development of such weapons highlights the ongoing arms race in space and the urgent need for international regulatory frameworks to address the militarization of outer space, fostering dialogue around space security and the prevention of conflict in this increasingly contested domain.
