Ex-ADC woman leader defects to APC

Kayauta Yakubu, the former National Woman Leader of the African Democratic Congress, has defected to the All Progressives Congress in Nigeria, a move that was celebrated during a formal ceremony in Abuja.

In a significant political shift, Kayauta Yakubu, who previously served as the National Woman Leader for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection was marked by a ceremony held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, where Yakubu was welcomed by the ruling party's National Woman Leader, Mary Alile-Idele, alongside her supporters. This event underscores the ongoing political realignments in Nigeria as parties vie for support in a rapidly changing landscape.

During the ceremony, Alile-Idele spoke on behalf of APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, emphasizing that Yakubu’s defection represents a transition to a "growing and forward-moving political platform." She highlighted that the APC is open to all Nigerians who wish to play a role in national development, reinforcing the idea that the party’s expansion is evidence of public trust in its leadership and policies. This move comes amid Nigeria's political climate, where party loyalty is often influenced by perceptions of effectiveness and reform.

Alile-Idele also praised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its efforts in reform, infrastructure development, and community empowerment. The reception of Yakubu into the APC is indicative of the party’s strategy to consolidate power and enhance its appeal in the face of upcoming challenges. As political dynamics evolve, defections such as Yakubu’s may have broader implications on electoral strategies and party loyalty in Nigeria’s multi-party system.
