The 'Republic' Party transforms into 'We Change the Rules' under the leadership of Alvis Hermanis
Alvis Hermanis has taken the helm of the newly renamed 'We Change the Rules' Party in Latvia, emphasizing the need for significant political changes to maintain national identity.
Under the new leadership of Alvis Hermanis, the political party 'Republic' has rebranded itself as 'We Change the Rules'. In his inaugural address to party members, Hermanis highlighted the immense global changes that will affect every nation, asserting the politicians' role in guiding Latvia through these transformative times. He stressed the primary objective of the party: to preserve the Latvian language, traditional lifestyle, and national identity amid evolving global dynamics.
Hermanis will be joined in the new party leadership by the former chairman, Ēriks Pucens, alongside programmer Jāzeps Baško, who participated in the founding of the political movement 'Without Parties'. Baško stated that their party is not merely seeking to gain positions or jobs within ministries but aims to minimize such practices, suggesting a desire for a more principled and purpose-driven political approach. The new party's core tasks will include reforming electoral laws to empower voters and foster genuine political engagement.
This reformation represents a significant shift in the Latvian political landscape, as the party seeks to differentiate itself from traditional political practices and address the growing concerns of the electorate regarding identity and governance. The ambitions of this new party align with broader movements in Europe where traditional parties are facing challenges from newer formations advocating systemic change in response to modern socio-political dynamics.
