Hugo Motta defends Dino's decision to suspend payments of 'penduricalhos' in the public service
Hugo Motta supports the suspension of illegal additional payments in the public sector announced by Minister Flávio Dino.
On October 10, Hugo Motta, the President of the Chamber of Deputies in Brazil, publicly supported the recent decision made by Supreme Court Minister Flávio Dino which suspended the payment of illegal extra benefits, known locally as 'penduricalhos', within the public sector. Motta emphasized the importance of this decision, arguing that addressing such issues is essential for societal accountability and reform. He described the initiative as a necessary step to bring transparency and coherence to the public payroll system, which has been criticized for perpetuating unnecessary expenses.
During a remote participation in an event organized by BTG Pactual in São Paulo, Motta clarified that the government should continue to discuss the implications of such financial adjustments. By asserting that Dino's ruling 'brings light' to an important issue, he aligned himself with calls for administrative reform. Additionally, he highlighted the need for open debate about these payments, reiterating that the society demands accountability from its leaders, particularly concerning public spending.
Motta also addressed the recent pay raise approved for the staff of the Chamber, claiming it was justified and followed established standards similar to those used for adjusting salaries in the Judiciary and the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU). His statements reflect an ongoing discourse within Brazilian politics about transparency in public spending and the necessity to balance employee compensation with fiscal responsibility, especially in light of recent budgetary constraints and public demands for reform.
