Netherlands allocates extra €35m to support Ukraine's energy sector
The Netherlands has increased its contribution to Ukraine's energy sector by an additional €35 million, bringing the total support through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to €100 million.
On February 10, Ukraine's Ministry of Energy announced that the Netherlands has allocated an additional €35 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, increasing the total contribution to €100 million. This funding will specifically help install rooftop solar power systems, aimed at ensuring that critical infrastructure facilities, particularly hospitals, remain operational during failures of the central electricity grid due to Russian attacks.
The initiative comes as part of broader international support for Ukraine’s energy sector, which has suffered significant disruption from ongoing conflict. The total contributions from international partners to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund have now exceeded €1.8 billion, showcasing a strong commitment to bolstering Ukraine's energy resilience and independence amidst the ongoing crisis.
In conjunction with this donation, other international efforts have continued, including the arrival of 177 generators from the European Union and additional assistance from Spain. Such measures are vital as Ukraine seeks to enhance its energy security and mitigate the effects of external threats, particularly in light of the winter season and the challenges posed by increased military activities against its energy infrastructure.
